Hot Tropics

Hi all,

So it's been a while since our last post and there has been plenty going on in (and outside) the boutique. In the last couple of months we've had fashion week, shows, weddings and most importantly, lots of lovely NEW stock!

Spring is always such an inspiring time of year. We don't know if it's the sight of beautiful blossoms, the longer days, warmer weather (if we're lucky) or the abundance of lighter brighter clothes that burst from L'Armoire's rails. It certainly gets the creative juices flowing.

Fashion @ Arboreal Pics

It seems like a long time ago now but at the end of March, we took part in the fantastic fashion event held in the lovely Arboreal cafe kitchen bar just two doors down from us here in Cowbridge. The show was a huge success profiling fashion and good food. A fantastic fun night was had by all, so here are some pics...

Head To The Tropics

If the warm weather insists on staying away from the UK for now, you can bring a little sunshine in to your wardrobe with Malene Birger's hot tropical prints. Adding a brighter bloom or print to your outfit will give you that 'club tropicana' feel in the mind even if your not actually there in body!

A Classic Case of Deja Vu..?

Is it a case of deja vu?? We know you've heard us talk of the classic stripe on many occasions but they really are all over the place once again. Nothing looks quite so chic as a savvy stripe and we just love them here at L'Armoire. If you fancy going bold, plump for American Vintage's grapefruit stripe long layering tank or if your after a more subtle approach Day have played it down with their muted putty and taupe fine knit.

Jewellery Just In

Looking for a little gift for someone? Or just something for yourself? Our pretty jewellery range has arrived once again. The boutique is brimming with twinkly trinket necklaces, delicate earrings and beaded bracelets. So hurry, styles sell out fast!

I do!

And finally yes, you did hear us mention a wedding. For those of you who may or may not know, L'Armoire owner Melissa married her long term partner Geraint on the 29th April 2012! A beautiful and special day was had by all and for those of you we promised a picture to..., here it is!

P.S. Plus a little treat for those of you who would like to see 'the dress', it will be in L'Armoire from tomorrow, Saturday 12th May until Tuesday 15th May.

See you all soon xx

Print Profile

Hi all,

Spring has officially sprung here in Cowbridge in the last few days and we promise you your not the only ones stuck with that awkward 'transitional' wardrobe panic every morning. We've all been their, staring at a pile of dark and dreary clothes while the sun is shining outside thinking 'it looks warm, but am I going to freeze if I don't wear my trusty black opaque tights'. Then we get half way through the day wishing we hadn't put those thermal socks and riding boots on instead of a pair of pumps. Well ladies, it's time to take the plunge, and yes you can still be prepared for our unpredictable weather and look positively spring like with a few key pieces.

Mix and match these key items to get you started.

The bright basic for layering

The chunky neural knit

The easy breezy blouse

Sweet Like Candy Girl

Hi all,

Food is never far from our minds here at L'Armoire and as the new season collections trickles through the door we can't help compare the sweet candy colours with our favourite confections and treats..., in particular, ice cream! American Vintage have certainly covered every flavour you could think of and it's making us hungry! From peach, melon and mango to cool mint, lemon and raspberry, there's plenty on the menu to choose from, yum!

A seasonal Staple

We've talked in the past about the 'wardrobe staples' that we think every girl should have in her life and with a new season underway, there's no better time than to start looking in to your spring/summer wardrobes and seeing exactly what's needed. This week our 'wardrobe staple' of choice is THE BLAZER. A timeless and easy piece that can be styled up or down, is transitional between seasons and is a complete essential in our eyes. Here we've chosen three little beauties that are new in L'Armoire to get you started.

Day's super cute grey marl soft blazer with pretty broderie anglaise detail under the collar allows you to effortlessly style it with collar up and cuffs rolled back. Styling Tip- Team it with jeans, oversized shirt and scarf now and a soft cotton dress when the weather warms up.

Malene Birger's cream cotton mix one button blazer has a little more structure and shape. Styling Tip- A great work wear piece that will keep any outfit looking 'pulled together' but can easily be worn off duty too.

A classic navy blazer will never let you down. Coveted by many a style icon from Princess Di to the ever stylish editor-in-chief of French Vogue Emanuelle Alt. Malene Birger's double breasted little number has got longevity written all over it. Styling Tip- Looks great teamed with all kinds of stripes for a nautical edge.

And the Oscar Goes To....

Gwyneth Paltrow totally knocked us out with her cool, clean and just enough 'fashion forward' outfit at the Oscars on Sunday. Tom Ford was the man responsible for the stunningly simple white slash neck gown accompanied by a floor length white cape. We loved it and she was the clear winner for 'Best Dressed' category...if there actually was one. (Plus extra bonus points for impeccable accessorising too).

Diaries at the Ready

Cowbridge Fashion Week is fast approaching so clear your diaries ladies for the last week in March, there lots going on! Here's the schedule

Tuesday 27th March
Fashion @ Arboreal 7:30pm, Featuring L'Armoire, E91 and Pebble. Tickets £15 (includes drink on arrival and canapes)

Bright Basics

                                                                          Hi there,

We love at the moment how the awards season is in full swing and timed just perfectly to fit in with the fresh new Spring /Summer collections arriving on our doorstep everyday. The excitement of both has sent us in to a spin!

Colour Me Happy

As we mentioned in our last post, colour is the story for the season ahead. If the word 'colour' scares you a little, don't worry, there are two camps to choose from, 'The Pastels' and 'The Brights'. Which ever camp your in remember colour blocking is the key to getting it right plus you can pair down your colour with nudes and neutrals or just add it as an accent to an otherwise muted outfit. If you are going all out, the rule is keep your colour choices to a minimum of two to three. The future looks bright to us!

New In

And on that bright note, here's a sneaky peek at what came in this week from American Vintage. Check out these mouth watering basics;

And The Award Goes To....

The Golden Globes were the first on the awards calender and as you know we always love to give you our 'Best Dressed' for what it's worth. Emma Stone was the young starlet that caught our eye in a beautiful floor length Lanvin gown with sheer side split. The colour was rich and romantic and we loved the rock edge she gave it with a wing buckle belt and smokey eye make-up. She is definitely one to watch in the style stakes. We can't wait for the Oscars Emma!

A Sensational Spring To Come!

Hi there,

A very Happy New year to you all! We hope you were all spoilt rotten this Christmas and had a restful and relaxing break. 2012 is going to be a very exciting year for us here at L'Armoire and we can not wait.

Believe it or not new Spring/Summer 12 stock has started to trickle in already and with the ghastly gusting winds outside it's a breath of fresh air seeing the brights and stripes for the new season bursting out of boxes. From Malene Birger there's the nod to the French classics, savvy stripes of course. Mixing things up with splashes of fruity raspberry, grassy green, lagoon and sky blue and perfect peach (see the show here http://bit.ly/AyeJXv ). American Vintage keeps their basics cool and easy with featuring silk prints throughout the collection-think pretty tropical blooms and Gatsby inspired deco prints. Day Birger et Mikkelsen's bohemian routes compliment the tribal trend for SS12. They have cleverly blended colour, our favourite being their vibrant mustard yellow and pattern with embellishment. Soft tailoring is played down with understated fabrics such as cottons, linens and silks. So without further a do, here what's new...

Day mustard yellow linen duster coat & Malene Birger blue print scarf

Malene Birger navy & ecru stripe cotton knit

 Malene Birger raspberry jersey tunic

Thursday nights have become our favourite TV night for the new year. Kicking things off on Channel 4 at 8pm is Location Location Location. We were totally inspired by last week's young arty couple taking on a mammoth of a project after purchasing an old shop. We admit we love a bit of a nose when it comes to interesting homes and excitingly we can follow their progress on their website The Shop Window http://www.theshopwindow.org/ . Following this is the the return of the brilliant restoration man (Channel 4 9pm). If you missed it we suggest you head to 4od to catch up on the moving first episode here http://bit.ly/A3IJF6 .

Talking of being nosey, we found this great little website called 'Closet Vist'. Founder Jeana Sohn (pronounced "Gina") simply visits creative, inspiring and stylish ladies'
closets. Using artistic photography it's mainly visual website but also features those all important relevant questions for each women in the spot light. We're addicted already. check it out here http://closetvisit.com/ . The down side is we're feeling a little inferior....better tidy our wardrobes quick sharp!

Don't forget L'Armoire's SALE is still on. Remember a great carry through piece is a smart SALE buy. Here is our SALE pick of the week;

Pick up on one of Springs trend colours with this peachy 'Brisa' blouse. Was £185, Now £99.

The Gift Edit

Hi all,

We've got it all wrapped up here at L'Armoire with our selected gift guide making it easy peasy for you to get to the bottom of your Christmas shopping list in one fell swoop, so take note!

Stocking Fillers

Everyone loves a Christmas stocking no matter how old they are. We say the smaller the gift the more you can pack in! Choose from our pretty Orelia jewellery collection full of delicate necklaces, pretty bracelets and earrings. (£12-£25)

A lovely pair of Falke tights also make a soft and cosy staple gift that every girl needs in her wardrobe. We love the grey cotton knit pair that are on the right side of wooly. (£15-£23)

Can't Go Wrong

American Vintage all round luxury basics make a lovely pressie to wrap up and relax in over the holiday period. The range is always full of cottons, cashmere and wool knits and never fail to seduce any recipient with their super soft feel. (£35-£168)

When buying a piece of jewellery for someone that you never quite know wears gold or silver, why not go for Malene Birger's mixed metal cuff woven from both. They'll never want to take it off! (£48)

It's a Wrap

Scarves are something we always have a great selection of here at L'Armoire. Get it all tied up with a splash of colour here or a print there and any girl will be over the moon when you come up trumps. There is always guidance in store on how to tie your scarves so after Christmas send your loved one in for a mini masterclass! (£48-£102)

For the girl that knows her fashion and is always tricky to buy for, Day's lovely charcoal grey wool hat will prove to be the ultimate cover up from the cold and she will be impressed you also know this over sized floppy style is the hat to be seen in this season. (£109)

Spoilt Rotten

This is where (if your feeling generous) you can blow the budget! If your buying for someone special you know then it's best to stay focused. If it's a classic girl your buying for we suggest this Malene Birger neat camel jacket. It will definitely prove to be a versatile piece that can be dressed up or down. (£299)

And finally, what would Christmas be without a wonderful winter knit. Once again Malene Birger has covered this one with her over sized cosy woollen cardy/coat. We're secretly hoping this will be on our pile under the tree this year...(£265)

P.S. If all else fails, don't forget L'Armoire offers fail safe gift vouchers allowing them to choose for themselves at their leisure.

British Fashion Awards 2011

We love this time of the year when the good and the great from the world of British fashion descend stylishly upon the Savoy hotel in London for the the Fashion Council's annual awards ceremony. This year didn't disappoint and we always like to choose our own 'best dressed' here at L'Armoire so here is our top three;

1. Olivia Palermo in a feathery delight by Matthew Williamson.

2. Alex Chung for the second year in a row collecting her award for Best British Style looking cute as a button in Christopher Kane.

3. Double points to Patrick Grant for swapping the classic black dinner jacket for a checkered number. (Well he is the owner of Savile Row tailor Norton &Sons so why not).

See the winners and all the outfits here http://www.britishfashioncouncil.com/content/1142/British-Fashion-Awards

*There are still a few tickets left for our 'Fashion Play' this Friday 2nd December at 7:30pm in Barefoot Studio, Cowbridge. It's all to raise money for a good cause (Macmillan) so if you haven't already got your tickets (£5), email us or give us a call at the boutique on 01446 774766.
