London V's Cowbridge Fashion Week

Ahhh, so London Fashion Week was amazing! Of course a really inspiring trip with loads of styling ideas from the fash pack around and about at LFW for our current season (as always an abundance of black, with khaki, Camel and all tones of grey thrown in). P.S Our top five shoe guide last week was spot on, with a great mix of all that was mentioned (especially laced ankle boots and riding boots). Of course, what we were mainly there for was an exciting inside scoop on what's coming up for next spring/summer11 from the catwalk shows and exhibition.


L'Armoire owner Melissa managed to catch the beautiful show from Jasper Conran. Going back to his roots for his own high end collection, he followed the fifties vibe with nipped in waists and clean simple cuts (a little bit Sandra D) in summery sherbet colours.

As the current American TV series Mad Men is having such an influence on the fashion world at the moment we thought we would give you a little helping hand injecting some of that sassy and oh so feminine feel into your wardrobes.

We say bow one of Liberty's silk scarves to add that sixties feel to our classic grey Malene Birger's 'Valiliy' curve shift dress.

These days this look is totally work appropriate, but if you are a Joan Holloway devote (played by the curvy Christina Hendricks), wear doing those daily house hold chores..., (or maybe not!).

When we look back at different style decades, there is always one look that seems to be totally timeless and could fit into any year since Chanel first made its stamp on fashion. Of course its the classic tweed jacket that you can wear over anything, for almost any occasion. Here at L'Armoire we have the perfect substitute in Malene Birger's 'Jasmia' short black and grey jacket with chain detail on the pockets. We've styled it with an American Vintage simple black jumper dress, but will look just as good over a clean white tee-shirt and jeans.

Kicking off on Thursday 21st October will be a Champagne afternoon tea party - Tickets £19.95
To be held in The Bear Hotel at 3pm. This will include a string quartet, and fashion show which will then lead to the opening celebrations of a street parade with the theme 'Cowbridge Vintage Glamour'. There will be lots going on including fashion paparazzi, street walkers, and music, with a special event going on in L'Armoire, including a late night opening!

Friday 22nd October - Fashion Lunch, Tickets £25
Held at The Bear Hotel, which includes a 2 course lunch, fashion show and raffle.

Saturday 23rd October

Saturday Day- Fashion Shows
These will be held throughout the day, showing from many different boutiques in the town. Of course L'Armoire's show will be the hottest ticket of the day, as we are also teaming up with Jon Ian showing their amazing shoes and accessories to team with every outfit. Woodcocks is also joining us with their great range of underwear, swimwear and clothing. Don't miss it!

Saturday Night
Glamorous Ball aso to be held at The Bear Hotel. Includes a 3 course dinner and entertainment.

All things Liberty!

We've always loved all things Liberty here at L'Armoire stocking the brand from when we first opened. And while the fashion world is having a moment for the iconic London store, you can come and inject a little Liberty into your life. Their beautiful collection has certainly sent us into a spin. As always, we have had many more drops of autumn/winter stock since our last newsletter. Keeping with the camel trend of the season, Day has totally nailed it with their silk embellished dress. We love the fine pleat detailing on the shoulders and back of the dress. Wear with leggings until woolly tights become a must.

Stud detailing on anything and everything is having a moment. And what better way to channel it than on Malene Birger's black 'Barney' fine knit. Team with a great pair of jeans and pumps.

Also from Malene birger is the grey soft flannel 'Datica' tunic. We love how it eases us into autumn styling. Layer over beige peg shape chinos, and for those breezier days just add the American Vintage winter blush cashmere scarf.

For all you style conscious women who love L'Armoire's top five tips, here is this week's top five essential shoes to cover your wardrobe for the next six months;

1. The classic court shoe. Make sure you get a pair that fits your lifestyle and wardrobe so it will suit all possible occasions.

2. A lace up brogue. At first we weren't convinced, but now we wouldn't be without a them. An on trend alternative to a pump that will quirk up any look.

3. The riding boot. Originally a country classic and now they grace every fashionistas winter wardrobe.

4. A heeled lace ankle boot. We love the way these babies can work well with either casual or tailored looks. A neutral colour is always good, either tan or grey will keep you up to date.

5. The party shoe. Now this will give you licence to go wild. Sparkle, animal print, strappy, which ever way you choose to go, this is going to be your play shoe over the party season, so make it good!

We told you to put a note in your diaries for Cowbridge Fashion Week coming up from the 21st to the 23rd of October. What's Been Going On at L'Armoire...?

So finally we are into autumn/winter season! The weather is on our side (if a little wet for our liking), now is the time to start adding those seasonal hints. Try the much sort after By Malene Birger grey leopard print 'Dellisha' scarf. It's already sold out once, but we managed to snatch the last few they had in stock!

And if you haven't already invested in a little knitwear, check out Day Birger et Mikkelsen's cosy range. We love that we can use it now almost instead of a jacket. Embellishment is in its plenty, adorning their dark grey poncho knit and as pocket detail on their black waffle cardy.

Day's 'Marine' jumper gives a nod to the Paris chic vibe, but you can give it that on trend fifty's spin seen on the catwalks at Stella McCartney and Isabel Marant by teaming it with slim black cigarette pants and pointy court shoes.

As we reported in our last newsletter, the stylish presenter Emma Willis was spotted wearing a By malene Birger blouse on BBLB that we stock here at L'Armoire. Well, she must be a fan because once again she was seen wearing their 'Tengira' dress (also featured in last weeks newsletter) we also stock...Ahhh, great style minds think alike!!

Also last week, actress Rebecca Atkinson popped in to say hi while staying in the area. She stocked up on all her autumn/winter goodies while here, bagging some of the hottest items in store!! We say she will be looking super stylish this season.

We can never quite get our heads round it that far in advance, but she has promised some amazing pieces! 'There is a beautiful soft colour pallet that will lead the season with feminine silk and chiffon pieces throughout. The camel colour continues in a short classic trench mirroring Buberry style at its best'.

A New Season Begins...

Hi all,


If you are like us, we are desperate to dip our little tootsies into the Autumn /Winter trends already. L'Armoire has had lots of gorgeous pieces in so far that scream 'wear me now!' but also say 'take me into autumn/winter' too. And yes, we can tell you exactly how to put your looks together.

Day Birger et Mikkelsen's silk paisley print dress is perfect for wearing right now with bare legs and their metal knot long necklace. One of our hobbies is to get lost in our favourite fashion glossy magazine every week/month. Here are our top five favourite mags;

1. Of course this top spot will always go to Vogue. We call it our 'inspirational guide' as opposed to fashion bible, and the latest issue is always to hand around the shop.

2. Grazia comes a close second with its weekly fix of hot new trends etc with a little celeb juicy gossip thrown in. Any event going on in the fashion world will always be reported in Grazia first.

3. Elle has the best front covers. Our recent favourite being June's 'Kylie in Love' issue. Elle can lean towards the slightly cooler/edgier side which gives a great balance to our other four favourites.

4. In Style always seems to sit under the radar but we have loved it for years. It never fails to edit the best picks from designers down to high street. Every issue gives you a great guide to putting together each seasons wardrobe.

5. Harper's Bazaar is a relatively new favourite. If your looking for glamour, this mag sums it up short and sharp. And speaking of front covers we totally loved June's mesmerising black and white photograph of the gorgeous Cheryl Cole (or is it Tweedy..? We're not quite sure what to call her now).

We get very excited when we see any celebrity/style icon wearing a piece we stock here at L'Armoire. And very chic indeed did BBLB's Emma Willis look last week when she was spotted presenting the show in By Malene Birger's 'Liton' blouse which we stock here in beautiful beige! (See above)

A new Season Itch.

Hi all,

Just a quickie to let you all know L'Armoire has had its final
